The Transgender Advisory Board was created on October 19, 2009 and is comprised offive (5) members, appointed by individual Councilmembers, and four (4) members appointed by the Council as a whole (at-large). Each member of the Board shall serve a two-year term commencing June 1st following a general municipal election. Members of advisory boards shall either: (1) be a resident of West Hollywood; (2) be an owner of a legitimate business entity in the City; or (3) work in the City of West Hollywood or for a business or agency that serves West Hollywood. For membership on the Transgender AdvisoryBoard applicants who do not meet the above criteria may also be selected who have demonstrated interest and/or expertise in the transgender community. If a member of the Board is absent for any reason for three or more regular meetings in any twelve-month period, the office of such member shall bevacated.

The Transgender Advisory Board addresses matters relating to the advocacy on behalf of transgender rights such as education, community awareness, and empowerment and makes recommendations to Council relative tothe adoption of programs, policies or ordinances of benefit to the constituency.
