Event Description

Images on which to build, 1970-1990s, curated by Ariel Goldberg opens at DCASE on April 20th and Dorothy is thrilled to host the afterparty celebration. Featured artists and collectives include: Diana Solís, Joan E. Biren (JEB), Lola Flash, Allen Frame, Frank Franca, the Lesbian Herstory Archives, ART+Positive and the Sexual Minorities Archives, among others.

The exhibition presents a range of photographic practices that used the medium as a tool for collectivity and empowerment within interconnected lesbian, trans, and queer grassroots organizing. IMAGES showcases technologies through which influential image cultures were constructed and circulated and also presents a range of photographic practices to explore the process of learning within alternative schools, workshops, demonstrations, dance clubs, slideshow presentations, correspondences, and community-based archive projects.

Join us for a gathering celebrating their opening! Doors at 6pm and from 7:30-8:30pm curator Ariel Goldberg will lead the artists in a discussion panel followed by a DJ set by TRQPiTECA from 9pm - Midnight.
