Aaron Franklin’s East Austin neighborhood gem Uptown Sports Club marks its two-year milestone with a po’boy showdown, featuring acclaimed local chefs, craft cocktails, Austin brews and live music.
Sponsored by Uptown’s favorite New Orleans-based French bread supplier Leidenheimer and local brewer Meanwhile Brewing, the event will be a friendly competition between seven guest chefs known for their unique local culinary styles representing local hotspots such as Knucklehead Sandwich, JewBoy Sub Shop, Canje, Suerte, La Plancha Mexican Street Food, OKO and more. Patrons are invited to enjoy samples and then vote for their favorite po’boy. Franklin, the legendary pitmaster behind Uptown Sports Club and Franklin Barbecue, will also be in attendance, but he’s leaving it up to his friends to share their takes on the New Orleans sammie. Dessert will be provided by scratch-made ice cream food truck Bésame and Asian American dessert shop OMG Squee. Breakaway Records will be spinning vinyls during the event, followed by a live three-piece band on the patio starting at 10 p.m. for those looking to keep the party going. The late-night concert is free, and no tickets are required.
