be put on the waitlist.**
Join Women’s Philanthropy’s Up Next group for a spring afternoon in Detroit’s
East Village as we explore two establishments within the Little Village
cultural corridor. We’ll take a guided tour of the art exhibition at The
Shepherd, a former church turned art center. We’ll also enjoy some kosher lite
bites and beverages at ALEO, a beautifully designed boutique bed and breakfast
in the Shepherd’s transformed rectory. ALEO is about a one-two minute walk
from the Shepherd, so we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes.
$40 per person.
Please RSVP before April 18.
**This event is intended for our Up Next** **group** — women 50+ with time
to focus on their passions, personal connections and new adventures.
**More About the Shepherd**
The Shepherd is a century-old Romanesque-style church transformed into a
cultural arts center with multi-faceted programming. The adaptive reuse of the
church, designed by Peterson Rich Office (PRO), includes two exhibition
spaces, a public library curated by Asmaa Walton of Black Art Library, a
performing arts theater, and workshop space for the community. The Shepherd’s
diverse programming seeks to blur the lines between gallery, institution, and
community arts center, and welcomes opportunities for collaboration with other
arts initiatives and organizations.
**More About ALEO**
A unique boutique bed and breakfast in Detroit’s Little Village cultural
neighborhood, located in a transformed rectory, ALEO blends historic charm
with a focus on contemporary art, featuring a curated collection from Library
Street Collective co-founders Anthony and JJ Curis. The interiors—custom
designed by Holly Jonsson Studio—offer guests an immersive journey into the
cultural significance of the community with décor that honors and highlights
local designers, furnishings reflective of Michigan’s connection to the Mid-
century Modern design movement, and work by artists based or rooted in the
City of Detroit.
