Event Description

Chicago’s Soul: The Words and Music of Gwendolyn Brooks and Curtis Mayfield weaves together the words and music of two of Chicago’s greatest treasures: Pulitzer Prize winning poet Gwendolyn Brooks and “Gentle Genius” singer/songwriter Curtis Mayfield. Their words and music are as powerful and relevant today as when they were written years ago. Their works were used as tools to rally folks to peacefully engage in community action and celebration. Chicago’s Soul is co-produced and narrated by journalist, Cheryl Corley, and features a stellar band lead by singer/songwriter Lucy Smith. https://lucysmithjazz.com/
