Surviving the Mic: Virtually Together is a twice-monthly online space and writing workshop dedicated to the perspectives, experiences, and artistic expressions of survivors of sexual harm.
This is part of Surviving the Mic’s #SurvivingSocialDistance campaign.
It can be difficult to feel as we have permission to discuss the impact of sexual violence or to even know what resources are still available to survivors during the COVID-19 pandemic, physical distancing, and uprisings against violence towards Black people. However, survivors know that the impact of sexual harm knows no limits and may be more deeply felt as people practice physical distancing.
Therapeutic practices and other self-care strategies may have been disrupted or become inaccessible. That’s why we are holding space for folks to engage and be in community with other survivors of sexual harm.
Each week, this virtual space will be shaped by whoever attends but will always include a writing prompt facilitated by the survivor-led volunteer team of Surviving the Mic and the Community Engagement department of the Chicago Alliance Against Sexual Exploitation. Other offerings include space for participants to share artistic expressions and resources for anyone looking for support.

The Surviving the Mic Community Guidelines will be detailed at the beginning of every Zoom gathering, with the opportunity for those present to reflect on, respond to, and shape guidelines as necessary.
