Event Description

On Thursday, September 24, at 5:30 p.m., we’re excited to introduce new partners and a fresh approach to changing narratives, in our first-ever Celebration of Change! Registration is free for this online event. The annual Studs Terkel Community Media Awards, originally intended for this date, has been postponed to 2021 (details TBD).

Panelists for the evening include representatives from the Obama Foundation's My Brother's Keeper Alliance (Chicago), Advance Illinois, Northwestern Medicine and the Hana Center.

At the start of the evening, we'll hear from three descendants with incredible stories. Karin Berry’s great-great grandfather was hanged in Wilkinson Co., MS in September 1879. Michelle Duster’s great grandmother was none other than world renowned journalist and abolitionist, Ida B. Wells-Barnett. Marti Tippens Murphy’s great-great-great aunt owned one of the largest slave trading firms in the United States.

Hear them each weigh in as they ‘Reconcile the Moment’ with Deborah Douglas.
