Event Description

Fruit Salad is Dorothy's monthly queer open mic night! Hosted by Rainn and co-produced by Whitney LaMora, this open mic night gives open mic performers the chance to share their work in front of our supportive & gorgeous group of attendees before we hand it over to our feature performers of the night.

Our open mic sign up is based on a lottery system! Attendees will get a link immediately after purchasing a ticket to sign up for the open mic until Friday November 10th. Five open mic slots are reserved for BIPOC performers and the other five slots are open for all submissions.

Our open mic list will be announced via our Instagram @fruitsaladchicago and open mic performers will be contacted via email by Rainn.

After our open mic for the evening, we welcome our feature for the month - Sharon Udoh!

Sharon Udoh (they/she) is a gay, first-generation Nigerian-American composer, pianist, arranger, bandleader, and vocalist based in Chicago. Their work abandons genre and is expansive, and tells stories of human complexity, chaos, and connection. She sometimes takes the stage under the name Counterfeit Madison, and their magnetic, dangerous, and kind performances capture the intimacy of the present and resonate with the essence of Black, queer futures.

Entry is $15 [tickets limited to 2 per purchase] and proceeds are shared with the performers, the production team, our home base Dorothy and our giveback partner for this month chosen by Sharon: Chicago Therapy Collective!

Chicago Therapy Collective (CTC) promotes citywide action to alleviate LGBTQIA2S mental health disparities and advance queer liberation through healing, learning, and cultural change.

This event will include an air purifier thanks to Clean Air Club. Clean Air Club is a group of Chicagoans who love our music and arts scene and want to see it thrive. We believe that focusing on indoor air quality during an ongoing pandemic is one of the ways that we can protect the health and safety of everyone in this community. It’s good for performers, it’s good for us, and it’s good for the long-term health of our thriving creative scene. You can support their efforts by donating to their GoFundMe!

This event is mask suggested. All guests are encouraged to test themselves 24-48 hours prior to the event.

Doors for the evening open at 6:45pm and our show starts at 7:30pm. Performers should arrive by 7:15pm at the latest and check in with our host to be guaranteed their slot. Our feature follows after intermission.

Dorothy is 21+ and requires a physical ID for entry. Dorothy is also ADA accessible. If you are a guest who requires elevator access, please stop by Split-Rail when you arrive or speak to our security person for assistance.

Want to dine at Split-Rail before the show? We recommend making a reservation.

NOTE: Refund requests for Fruit Salad are given until midnight the day before the show. No day-of refunds will be given. Tickets sold outside of Eventbrite are not accepted for entry. No tickets, no waitlist at the door.
