The Wabash Arts Corridor (WAC) and Columbia College Chicago have come together to revitalize the art corridor in South Loop and honor the women suffragists of the past who fought to give all women in the United States the right to vote.
On July 20th, 2021, from 6 PM until 8 PM Columbia College in conjunction with the Wabash Arts Corridor will be putting on an event in the parking lot of 538 S. Wabash Ave where two new murals honoring the Women’s Suffrage movement are being brought to life by the Wabash Art Corridor. The goal of the event is to raise funds and awareness for future WAC projects. The event will host a DJ, food vendors, a charity raffle and will showcase murals that are already on display. There will be actors portraying famous suffragists who will teach you about the struggle they went through in order to secure voting rights.
"The vision for The WAC is Back event is to create an opportunity for an annual event highlighting upcoming murals and establishing a gathering place for the Wabash Arts Corridor and South Loop community. The mission of The WAC is Back event is to provide awareness and funding for the Wabash Arts Corridor and its upcoming mural installations around the South loop as well as provide a unique and interactive experience for the south loop community based around the women’s suffrage movement by representing women talent, vendors, and themes. The goals for WAC is Back are to re-engage Wabash Arts Corridor community members, create awareness of the Women’s Suffrage Murals and the Wabash Arts Corridor in the South Loop, and tell stories of featured women leaders in the suffrage movement."
Coming to the event you can expect to have more than fun! You will hopefully leave with a better understanding of the women's suffragist movement, great pictures with the murals, and full stomachs filled with great food from local south loop food vendors. The WAC and Columbia are excited to see you there
