A march for EVERYONE to demand that the Supreme Court keep its "Hands off our Bodies!" We demand they "Uphold Roe!"
On March 5th, the Saturday before International Women's Day, please join us for a march in the LGBTQ community formerly known as "Boystown" as we defend the right to abortion throughout the country for women and gender non-conforming people.
The right to control our own bodies is one that LGBTQ people hold dear. After centuries of church and state attempts to sanction and control us, we know that rightwing attempts to destroy abortion rights, regardless of whether we can become pregnant ourselves, are an existential threat to us all.
If we lose the right to legal abortion, all of us will find a host of other rights soon on the chopping block. For those leading the attack on abortion are the same people who denounce #BlackLivesMatter and barely conceal their contempt for LGBTQ people, immigrants and refugees. They’re the same people opposing voting rights, union rights and the social services that would begin to address the gaping inequalities in this country.
Faced with these attacks on multiple fronts, we cannot remain "siloed" in our individual movements. That’s the way to piecemeal defeat. Instead, we must rebuild the intersectional struggles that gave us legal abortion across the county in 1973..
The 1960s and early 1970s was an era that saw LGBTQs fight for our rights and at the same time support the Black Panthers fighting racism. The Black Panthers not only opposed racist police violence, they organized against the US war in Vietnam. Women organizing in the civil rights and anti-war movements were inspired to establish a radical women's rights movement.
This is our legacy from the ‘60s era. Solidarity works! It’s a legacy that the rightwing fears, hates and has been working for decades to destroy.
Solidarity among grass-root movements is the way forward. Rather than depend on politicians with their fingers always to the wind or on unreliable, rightwing courts, the way to defend and expand our rights today is unity in action.
So join us on March 5th as we march in the neighborhood formerly known as "Boystown" to demand, "Defend Roe! Stop the attacks on abortion and all reproductive rights!"
