Virtual Meet-and-Greet a Lincoln Park Zoo Animal

Lincoln Park Zoo is home to nearly 200 species. During this virtual experience, you will start your day with an intimate look at the fascinating animals living at Lincoln Park Zoo. Each Saturday, you will join other guests and one of our animal curators, on a journey to learn more about a specific animal group— from their habits and diets to their individualized care and general personality traits.

Following the meet-and-greet, you will have the opportunity to ask moderated questions about your favorite animals, live from home!

Saturday, July 11: Live from the Pritzker Family Children's Zoo with the American Black Bears and Red Wolfs
Saturday, July 25: Live from the Waterfowl Lagoon with the Chilean flamingos
Saturday, August 8: Live from the Robert and Mayari Pritzker Penguin Cove with the African Penguins

This event is suitable for guests of all ages.

Registrants will receive a unique link to view the event, which will take place via the Zoom live video platform, within two hours of the event. Please be sure you access the link prior to the event to ensure a proper connection.

The event will start with a short introduction followed by a 20-minute presentation and a 10-minute Q&A session.

Speakers:
Dan Boehm, Curator of Small Mammal-Reptile House, Children’s Zoo, Camel & Zebra (July 11)
Dan started working at Lincoln Park Zoo in 1998 as an animal keeper at Regenstein Small Mammal-Reptile House and was promoted to assistant lead keeper of that building in 2001. In 2004, he was promoted to zoological manager of Small Mammal-Reptile House and Pritzker Family Children’s Zoo and was part of the design, construction, and successful opening of the children’s zoo in 2005. Dan is currently the zoological manager of Small Mammal-Reptile House, Pritzker Family Children’s Zoo, and Camel & Zebra. Across the zoo, he is responsible for a very diverse collection of 84 species and a team of 21 animal keepers.
Sunny Nelson, Curator of Birds (July 25 and August 8)
Sunny began her career as a birds and small animals keeper at Zoo Atlanta. She has been at Lincoln Park Zoo since 2010, first as lead keeper of the McCormick Bird House, then as Zoological Manager, and currently as Hope B. McCormick Curator of Birds. Sunny oversees a diverse avian collection of more than 55 species.Sunny is the Species Survival Plan (SSP) coordinator and studbook keeper for the Inca tern population. She also works closely with the AZA’s Population Management Center (PMC), U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and Puerto Rico Department of Natural Resources to maintain a master studbook for the Puerto Rican Parrot captive breeding and recovery program.
Sunny is currently working on the Bali Mynah recovery program and the Asian Songbird Crisis group, and currently serves on the steering committees for the Avian Scientific Advisory Group, PaCCT Taxon advisory group, and Anseriformes taxon advisory group
