Music Mondays in Dorothy are a celebration of themes and genres of music we don't normally focus on throughout the week in our lounge. This August we get to enjoy custom playlists by Chicago multi-hyphenate creative: Francine Almeda.
Francine Almeda is a Chicago-based, Filipina-American DJ, independent curator, gallerist arts administrator, gallerist, and writer. She is the founder and director of Jude Gallery and the Manager of Heaven Gallery. Her space-making work spans art and music as methods to build structures of collaboration, joy, and care. Her eclectic sound spans the warm beats found in Southeast Asian Disco, Chicago House, Electronic Dance Music, Funk, and Boogie. As a curator and DJ, she aims to create sonic and physical spaces for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ individuals to experience necessary restoration and euphoria.
Francine has curated five hours of southeast asian disco, AAPI artists, disco, and Chicago house. About the playlist, Francine aimed to achieve the warmth and celebration that the last full month of summer should feel like.
Join us weekly to listen and dance to Francine's playlists with us, then join us for the final Monday of the month where Francine herself will perform a live DJ set inspired by her creation.
