Event Description

Chan is a queer nonbinary Black Sicilian rhythmic phonic musical artist from the city of Chicago who specializes in improvisation, taps, and contralto/baritone phonation. Chan strives to investigate the unending capabilities taps have as a percussive form and contributor to the rhythmic fabric of music.

With Chan’s quartet Chan Band, (Tyler Wagner, Erez Dessel, and Daniel Gayden) they execute these possibilities in the Jazz vernacular through originals, historical jazz and taps material, classic tunes, and exploratory improvisation.

Don't miss their unique approach as they bring a one hour live set to Dorothy on July 21st.

Doors at 6pm and Chan Band plays from 7-8pm. Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Dorothy remains open after the show until 11pm.

He also kept up an active performing career in the southeast, including presenting an hour-long improvised work for piano, pastel, and paper at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center. He moved to Chicago in 2022, and has worked continuously both as a performer and organizer, recording in an array of contexts with many internationally renowned musicians (including Ken Vandermark, Tim Daisy, Dustin Laurenzi, Maria Elena Silva, and Seajun Kwon). His current group activity includes the bands Edition Redux, Walking Cliche Sextet, and the Thwartet, Maria Elena Silva and Chan Band; duos with Scott Taylor and Tyler Wagner; and work as a solo performer.
