Fruit Salad is Dorothy's monthly queer open mic night! Hosted by Rainn and co-produced by Whitney LaMora, this open mic night gives ten performers the chance to share their work in front of our supportive & gorgeous group of attendees before we hand it over to our feature performer of the night.
Our open mic sign up is based on a lottery system! Attendees will get a link immediately after purchasing a ticket to sign up for the open mic until Sunday July 16th. Five open mic slots are reserved for BIPOC performers and the other five slots are open for all submissions.
Our open mic list will be announced via our Instagram @fruitsaladchicago.
After our open mic for the evening, we welcome our featured for the month - Dear Jamie!
Dear Jamie (they/she) plays multiple roles in their chaotic life. On top of being a songwriter and performer, they are also a therapist intern, makeup artist, fashion/hair model, travel junkie, roller-skater, and grad student about to earn their master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling. Their songwriting reflects upon the lessons learned while walking through this overflowing and limitless life within the lens of a queer, neurodivergent, minority immigrant, femme-presenting Aries. Their favorite thing to do in the whole wide world is to make their audience feel something through their music, so please take a moment to prepare for the feeling of feels. You can find Dear Jamie's social media as well as a link to their EP crowdfund at: https://linktr.ee/dearjamie @dearjamie_
Entry is $15 [tickets limited to 2 per purchase] and proceeds are shared with the performers, the production team, our home base Dorothy and our giveback partner for this month chosen by Dear Jamie: Brave Space Alliance.
Brave Space Alliance is the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ+ individuals on the South and West sides of the city. We strive to empower, embolden, and educate each other through mutual aid, knowledge-sharing, and the creation of community-sourced resources as we build toward the liberation of all oppressed peoples.
Doors for the evening open at 6:45pm and our show starts at 7:30pm. Performers should arrive by 7:15pm at the latest and check in with our host to be guaranteed their slot. Our feature follows after intermission.
Dorothy is 21+ and requires a physical ID for entry. Dorothy is also ADA accessible. If you are a guest who requires elevator access, please stop by Split-Rail when you arrive or speak to our security person for assistance.
NOTE: Refund requests for Fruit Salad are given until 12pm the day of the show. Tickets sold outside of Eventbrite are not accepted for entry. No tickets, no waitlist at the door.
