Event Description

Unladylike will be displaying artwork of DeJa Jovon (@deja.jovon), visual artist, co-owner of Unladylike, and pre-licensed sex therapist. Come for the art, and stay for the vibes! BYOB & BYOCannabis (420 Friendly!!) There will be light drinks, and refreshments. Join us as we celebrate DeJa's first solo exhibition and birthday! Masks are required regardless of vaccination status!

DeJa Jovon received her BA in Psychology and Spanish Language and literature from Northern Illinois University in 2016. After graduation, DeJa moved abroad to Madrid, Spain to teach English. Upon returning, she obtained her current profession as a community support specialist who works with people with mental illness and/or substance abuse. This ultimately inspired her to pursue a career in counseling. DeJa is now studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Adler University and Sexual Health with Sexual Health Alliance, in pursuit to become a Clinical Sex Psychotherapist.

Furthermore, DeJa Jovon is a self-taught artist from the Chicagoland area. Her work encompasses a sensual yet eccentric flare that depicts her perception of experiences and sociopolitical issues especially affecting Black women. She is inspired by literature such as Audre Lorde’s Uses of the Erotic: The Erotic as Power, bell hooks All About Love and surreal artwork from Salvador Dali. She has participated in various shows throughout Chicago and exhibited her work in San Francisco as well.

In addition, DeJa is co-owner of Unladylike, LLC. Unladylike seeks to not only redefine womanhood but to also dismantle outdated ideologies and social stigmas while also promoting healing through art and community events. Unladylike has facilitated their popular Puff, Paint, Pass and art exhibitions like self-titled UNLADYLIKE: An Exhibition of Womanhood and Escapism: Sex Positivity Exhibition. Additionally, community events includes The Healing Hub Series, and virtual events like Good Vibrations Pleasure Party, Sound Bowl Meditation, etc.
