Event Description

Chicago Playback Theatre Ensemble (CPTE) is a performance ensemble, which brings personal stories told by the audience to life onstage using improvisational theatre, movement, and music. Unlike other Improv you might see in Chicago, Playback is not focused on comedy. Audience experiences of any kind, from the profound to the ordinary, from the joyful to the sorrowful, are worthy of attention, respect, and a voice with CPTE.

CPTE brings their PRIDE show to Dorothy with Amplify Queer Joy on June 28th.

From the Ensemble:

Queer Joy is a radical act. Full stop. In our world dominated by stories of queer struggle, we want to lift up your own lived experiences of queer joy. Join the Chicago Playback Theatre Ensemble for a fun blend of storytelling and theatre celebrating true stories of queer joy offered up from the audience!

During this performance the audience will be invited to tell stories from their lives, then the story will be “played back” by the actors using improv and music. Personal sharing is encouraged and entirely voluntary. Feel free to tell a story or to enjoy the stories of others.

Doors open at 6pm and the performance begins at 7pm until 8:30pm. Dorothy remains open until 10pm. Tickets are sliding scale $10, $15 or $20. Dorothy is 21+ and all guests must provide physical ID upon entry.

Dorothy is ADA accessible with elevator access on Campbell Avenue. If you are a guest who requires elevator access, please reach out ahead of time, stop by Split-Rail on your way in for assistance or speak to our door security person when you arrive.

Other accessibility notes: There is space for mobility devices in this space. Lights stay up and static the entire show. The show may include loud sounds and sudden motions. There will not be ASL interpretation or captioning services. Masks are not required but highly encouraged. We are not currently requiring proof of vaccination. All actors are fully vaccinated and will have taken a negative COVID rapid test the day of the performance. This indoor performance space has the capacity for 120 patrons.

Please note: refund requests will only be accepted until noon the day of the show.
