Fruit Salad is Dorothy's monthly queer open mic night! Hosted by Rainn and co-produced by Whitney LaMora, this open mic night gives ten performers the chance to share their work in front of our supportive & gorgeous group of attendees before we hand it over to our feature performer of the night.
Our open mic sign up is based on a lottery system! Attendees will get a link immediately after purchasing a ticket to sign up for the open mic until Friday September 15th. Five open mic slots are reserved for BIPOC performers and the other five slots are open for all submissions.
Our open mic list will be announced via our Instagram @fruitsaladchicago and open mic performers will be contacted via email by Rainn.
After our open mic for the evening, we welcome our featured for the month - KT!
KT is excited for the opportunity to share space with Fruit salad! KTs love for music comes from their 17 years of experience as a multiple disciplinary performance artist. What she loves most about music is that it’s is expressive, collaborative and can create a sense of community. From singing burlesque, to writing for and with different Chicago based artists, KT’s intentions in making music are to make genuine connections with people and create beautiful things! KT is is honored to be able to share her art with Fruit Salad. KT released her first solo single “Molassesâ€, found on iTunes and Spotify AND has more music on the way this summer. :)
Entry is $15 [tickets limited to 2 per purchase] and proceeds are shared with the performers, the production team, our home base Dorothy and our giveback partner for this month chosen by KT: Free Root Operation.
Free Root Operation addresses the root causes of gun violence through wellness programming, cultural activations, and a method of critical care, which are substantiated by research centering community wisdom. They take an innovative approach that serves as the nexus between championing Black women and their families and preventative measures of poverty-induced gun violence that demands integration into culture. Their operation is to restore communities impacted by poverty-induced gun violence to safe, abundant, and liberated sites of Oasis.
This event will include an air purifier thanks to Clean Air Club. Clean Air Club is a group of Chicagoans who love our music and arts scene and want to see it thrive. We believe that focusing on indoor air quality during an ongoing pandemic is one of the ways that we can protect the health and safety of everyone in this community. It’s good for performers, it’s good for us, and it’s good for the long-term health of our thriving creative scene. You can support their efforts by donating to their GoFundMe!
Doors for the evening open at 6:45pm and our show starts at 7:30pm. Performers should arrive by 7:15pm at the latest and check in with our host to be guaranteed their slot. Our feature follows after intermission.
Dorothy is 21+ and requires a physical ID for entry. Dorothy is also ADA accessible. If you are a guest who requires elevator access, please stop by Split-Rail when you arrive or speak to our security person for assistance.
