Anti-Racism at Summer Camp: A Vision of Inclusion for All

Let’s talk about the history of racism at summer camp, an industry and experience that has long been considered to be a place for people to find belonging, independence and the confidence to take on the world.

The wide-held perception is that summer camp DOES provide these things for all people, but, in reality, so many including Black and Brown communities, disabled folks, and families at or below the poverty line — are often excluded from the summer camp experience.

In this 60-minute presentation, McKensie Mack will talk about what it means to dismantle systemic racism at summer camp. McKensie will invite YOU — the leaders, the administrators, the counselors, and the summer camp community — to step into a new iteration of camp culture that is centered in anti-racism, accountability, healing, and repair.
