Marilyn and James in Celeste Ng’s novel Everything I Never Told You might have anticipated trouble with a review of literary history. Dr. John Hershey examines Interracial marriages, as well as relationships between characters who represent different societies, lead to conflicts in examples from literature, from Othello to Snow Falling on Cedars. The trouble is almost always imposed on the couples from the outside, but few characters survive unscathed. The discussion will explore a few of the literary warning signs.
